(09.10.2011) This fifth edition of the Southern European Veterinary Conference (SEVC) - the cooperative venture between the Spanish veterinary association, AVEPA, and the North American Veterinary Conference, NAVC - successfully fulfilled expectations.

Also participants from far away countries such as India, Bahrain, Australia, Canada and Hong Kong were present at this year’s SEVC. A significant number of representatives from Russia joined this year the event, boasting 60 veterinarians.

This international representation distinguishes SEVC as the largest international small animal veterinary conference in the world in terms of percentage of international delegates.

Dedicated to their mission of providing the European companion animal veterinary community the highest level of performance, more that 100 internationals experts presented 200 lectures. This year, in addition to English and Spanish, simultaneous translations were offered at several lectures in Portuguese, Polish and Russian.

Attendance was outstanding for the two symposia organized by two of the main sponsors: The Virbac symposium presented a novel vaccine against Leishmaniasis supported by 6 hours of lectures and dialogue which were attended by almost 300 veterinarians.

The Elanco symposium brought together another large group of attendees to unfold new scientific techniques and marketing strategies regarding flea’s control.

Keeping in line with the vision of organizing state‐of‐the‐art, innovative, hands‐on, continuing education programs, 14 workshops were offered to attendees to bring clinical experience to the education experience.

All seats were sold out for this program, showing the huge success of these sessions.

In addition to the scientific program, the SEVC offers the attractions of Barcelona history, beauty, and fine weather as well as Spanish‐style entertainment and an outstanding exhibit hall that this year featured 106 companies, including representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom as well as Spain.

In addition to the congress party / fiesta night, entertainment included a traditional Flamenco Show hosted by Hill's, and a performance to celebrate the inauguration of the commercial exhibition.
